Underwriting Manager

I’m currently working with a leading specialist MGA in the insurance market who have an opportunity for an experienced Underwriting Manager to join their well established team either working remotely or from their Head Office based in Bristol. The team consists of 5 Underwriters nationwide, underwriting a wide range of over 30 different insurance products, across Commercial, Personal and Ancillary lines.

Your Role 

• Designing, developing, and delivering a portfolio of ancillary and/or personal lines property insurances
• Apply underwriting strategy, including risk appetite, risk selection, and eligibility criteria to all allocated schemes
• Manage root cause analysis when either portfolio and/or individual policy conduct issues revealed
• Regularly report on key underwriting department metrics to the Underwriting Director
• Provide input into the technical underwriting strategy, providing performance and market insights where requested
• Ownership and maintenance of all schemes related documentation including, but not limited to, policy wordings, underwriting guides, rating engines/rationale
• Providing technical support to other members of the underwriting team within own area of Pricing and Product specialisms

Your Experience 

• A minimum of fifteen years’ UK general insurance sector experience
• Significant knowledge of underwriting processes and procedures
• Experienced in risk perception, risk assessment, and pricing
• CII qualifications desirable
• Excellent communication skills, ability to build understanding and handle complex negotiations
• Highly numerate and literature with a good attention to detail
• A decisive decision maker and influencer
