I’m currently working with a leading specialist MGA in the insurance market who have an opportunity for an experienced Underwriter to join their well established team either working remotely or from their Head Office based in Bristol. The MGA client offers a wide range of over 30 different insurance products, across Commercial, Personal and Ancillary lines so theres lots of opportunity to develop and learn whilst bringing valuable expertise to the team!
Your Role
- Conduct large loss reviews, making appropriate adjustments to scheme underwriting terms where necessary
- Ownership and maintenance of all schemes related documentation including, but not limited to, policy wordings, underwriting guides, rating engines/rationale
- Support business partners and the sales team through underwriting new business growth opportunities and/or opportunities to profitably grow existing business through optimization of underwriting terms
- Attend team and client meetings from time to time
- Ensure that desired loss ratios are achieved for your allocated schemes
- Apply underwriting strategy, including risk appetite, risk selection, and eligibility criteria to all allocated schemes
- Manage ongoing regular reviews to monitor performance of allocated schemes
Your Experience
- A minimum of ten years’ UK general insurance experience
- Knowledge of underwriting processes and procedures
- Experienced in risk perception, risk assessment, and pricing
- CII qualifications desirable
- Excellent communication skills, ability to build understanding and handle complex negotiations
- Highly numerate and literature with a good attention to detail
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
- Self-motivated to achieve targets as well as being a team player
